Carnaval 2011

The 4th Annual Tucson Carnaval will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, from 1pm – 8pm at Armory Park, 200 S. 6th Avenue.  A free, family-friendly event that celebrates spring, life and Tucson’s music, art, dance and culture.  Tucson Carnaval began in 2008 and is presented by Batucaxé in partnership with Tucson Parks and Recreation, Tucson Children’s Museum, Armory Park Neighborhood Association, the Downtown Tucson Partnership and Many Mouths One Stomach.

The mission of Tucson Carnaval is to create a participatory multi-cultural celebration inviting all members of the community to a parade and festival in celebration of humanity, the planet and new beginnings.

A colorful parade will begin at 2 pm, and a fiery finale at 7:30 pm with Flam Chen.

Tucson Water is now offering a new conservation rebate programs that help you save money and water, the Residential Gray Water Rebate.

Did you know 1/3 of household wastewater can be re-used to water landscape plants? By installing a gray water irrigation system in your home, you can qualify for a rebate of up to $200.

No APNA Board Meeting in January

There is no APNA board meeting scheduled for January;  our next regular board meeting will be February 8.

PRONeighborhoods Workshop: Time Banks in Action

Time Banks in Action:
Changing Your Neighborhood One Hour at a Time

Nan has a special interest in building strong communities able to include all our diverse members. She is working with Time Banks in the United Kingdom and the United States as a way to promote networks of support and uncover hidden talents.
Time Banks take many shapes. They can be used in pursuit of such wide-ranging goals as social justice, healthy lifestyles, and local sustainability. At the most basic level, Time Banks involve earning Time Dollars for hours you spend doing something for someone in your neighborhood. Then you have Time Dollars to spend having someone do something for you. In this workshop we will explore ways to start changing our Tucson communities, one hour at a time.
This training is for anyone who wants to be an agent of change! Current and future Time Bank coordinators, public officials, volunteers, neighborhood and community organizations, education professionals and youth workers will all find something of value to bring home.

Security Alert

SECURITY ALERT

As you may know there have been quite a number of cases of vandalism in our neighborhood of late. Primarily they have taken the form of cutting the wires that go to internet, cable TV and/or telephone. There have however been instances of someone turning off gas lines, electricity to homes as well as turning on water taps. Some neighbors have been hit multiple times. New Farmers' Market

The seven booths sit in a sunny lot with fifteen or twenty shoppers wandering from one to another, admiring the fruits and vegetables or the hand-made soaps or the jars of local honey. Someone has just purchased a dozen eggs from Marana and someone else is putting a jar of blueberry preserves and a couple of large ripe tomatoes in her canvas sack. Armory Loves Ice Cream

Community is lots of things. On this past August 15th it was sharing a bowl of ice cream with friends at the Armory Senior Center. It was the Annual Ice Cream Social, the brainchild of Armory Board member Karen Olson. This year neighbors met, talked, relaxed, partook of that American favorite, and, in fact, even danced.
