Dog Walker Watch Training

A message from Lead Police Officer Joseph Gradias, Tucson Police Department:
Greetings NextDoor and City of Tucson Residents. The Tucson Police Department is proud to announce that we have partnered with National Association of Town Watch/National Night Out to bring you, Dog Walker Watch!
What is Dog Walker Watch, you may ask? Well, Dog Walker Watch is a crime awareness program designed for neighbors who are familiar with their community and out in the neighborhood on a regular basis anyway, whether walking with or without a dog. Dog Walker Watch encourages these neighbors to assist local law enforcement as extra eyes and ears while out walking their dog in the ongoing community-policing efforts.
I will be hosting an informational training presentation at the Patrick K. Hardesty Multi-Service Center, located at 1100 S. Alvernon Way, in the front conference room from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 1st, 2018. I encourage any neighborhood association leader or active community member who wishes to get their neighborhood started to attend.
If you can’t make this meeting, don’t be discouraged, because we plan to have several more presentations in the near future. Thank you and hope to see you there!
We’re Moving the Listerv!
Based on some Listserv problems and recent online polling, the APNA Board has decided the currently used Listserv (on YahooGroups) will be discontinued by Sept. 15. At that time, we will move to our NEW GoogleGroup and cancel our YahooGroups subscription.
If you want to join Armory Park’s GoogleGroup listserv, just send a blank email from the email you wish to use to this address: Armory-Park+subscribe@GoogleGroups.com and then respond to the automated verification email it sends.
If you want to drop YahooGroups before Sept. 15 (to avoid too many double posts), send a blank email from your current YahooGroups-used email address to: ArmoryPark-unsubscribe@YahooGroups.com and respond to its verification (if any), too.
In the meantime we will stop approvals for joining YahooGroups and direct newcomers to the new GoogleGroup address. New members will be unable to post until verified and unmoderated, just like new YahooGroup members were. If you join with the same email address used in Yahoo, we can unmoderate you for posting fairly quickly. If you use a different email address we may email you for extra info before allowing message-posting privileges.
Please contact Tod Santee, Phyllis Factor, or Deborah Oslik if you have any problems joining.

Don’t forget! The July meeting of the Armory Park Neighborhood Association Board is Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall of St. Andrew’s Church. Come and hear what’s going on in the neighborhood! Topics will include listserv options, taking care of our traffic circles, and Camp Bravo.
APNA Board Meeting Tuesday, May 8!
Don’t forget! The APNA Board will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, May 8, at 7 PM, in St. Andrew’s Parish Hall. All are welcome!
In addition to updates on various APNA projects, we will also hear the latest about the proposal to rezone 747 S. 6th Ave. The property owner has asked to remove it from the Historic Preservation Zone to build a 48′ building.

Baffert Headlines APNA Agenda
The most important subject for the meeting was the Baffert Project at 6th Avenue and 18th Street. Both APNA and APHZAB (historic board) have sent letters to the zoning examiner for entry into the record of the hearing to happen at the Mayor & Council
chambers Thursday (12 April) at 6:00 PM. Both boards will also make presentation of their concerns at the hearing. Neither board is pleased with the proposed building height of 48 feet, much taller than any structure nearby. However, the most important issue is retaining the property in the historic zone so that the APHZAB will have some voice in how the project proceeds and to avoid a new precedent which could destroy our Historic Preservation Zone and others. The board asked for maximum resident attendance at the hearing to show that the community was very concerned about developments. There was consensus that if this rezoning is approved, there will be a succession of such actions going north along 6th Avenue (Wanslee Motors, Philbaum Gallery, Roy’s Market and more). Imagine what 6th Avenue will look like lined with buildings 48 feet tall or taller. The most public face of Armory Park will be disfigured and the western part isolated from the rest.
