Do We Want the Dusk Music Festival in Armory Park This Year?

As many of you know we had Page Repp, promoter of the Dusk festival, come to the APNA meetings in December and last night to discuss the 3 main concerns that arose from the Dusk festival last November. To reiterate they were:
1) Noise
2) Access and
3) Start/end time of festival

WANTED: Tucson Police Volunteers!
A message from Community Resource CSO Monica Van Norman, Tucson Police Department: “Here is an opportunity for you, our community members, to become more involved in helping Tucson Police Officers make our communities safer. A workshop will be held February 15th, 6-8 pm for those of you who would like to join TPD’s volunteer team, or if you’re thinking about it and would like more information on the program.”
APNA Meeting 2/12/18
Reminder: the APNA meeting is Tuesday 2/12 at 7 PM at St Andrew’s Parish Hall. Come and hear what’s going on the neighborhood, including an update from Page Repp on the Dusk Festival. If you recall, at a previous meeting, Page took feedback from the neighborhood regarding the festival. At the end of the discussion, by a motion of hands from the audience, it was determined that we would have Page come back in February to discuss updates to noise mitigation, street closures and times for the festival.

Dear Neighbors:
Just a few notes and updates from the meeting last Tuesday.
Page Repp, promoter of the Dusk festival was at the meeting to hear feedback from the neighborhood regarding the festival. Brent Dennis (Parks and Rec) and Greg Jackson (City Manager’s office) as well as Steve Kozachik were also there to answer questions about Armory Park and the permit process for events at Armory Park.
The majority of the questions at the meeting and from the listserv could be listed into 3 categories: 1) noise, 2) access – specifically on 6th Avenue, and 3) privatization of the park.

Brush and Bulky Plus the Week of 12/31/18
Heads up! Our next Brush and Bulky (B&B) collection will be the week of 12/31/18—which means probably 1/2/19 or 1/3/19.
Why are we having B&B now? It’s because the City has redone the entire zone structure to avoid splitting neighborhoods. Also for 2019 it’s launching “Brush and Bulky Plus.” We will be in a new zone, 05. We and others in Zone 5 will be the guinea pigs for this new program. We expect to have a City rep explain it at an upcoming APNA meeting.

Holiday Potluck Party 12/16/18!
The Armory Park Holiday Party will be held on Sunday, December 16th from 5-8pm at Giovanna’s home located at 505 S 6th ave. This is a potluck party and a sign up sheet has been created through Perfect Potluck. Contact jenniferlynnmaloney@gmail.com for details. Can’t wait to see you all there!
APNA Meeting 12/11: DUSK Festival, Armory Park, and More!
The Armory Park Neighborhood Association monthly meeting is Tuesday 12/11 at St. Andrew’s Church. Come and hear what’s going on in the neighborhood!
Page Repp, the DUSK festival director, will be doing a presentation regarding the festival and answer questions.
Greg Jackson from the City Manager’s Office, and Steve Kozachik, Ward 6 Councilman, will discuss and field questions about Armory Park, the permit process for happenings at Armory Park, and its use and potential upgrades (Prop 407 monies and Rio Nuevo).
There will also be a presentation on the new Brush and Bulky program and updates on the Holiday party and Holiday decorations contest.
A Day in the Park with the Tucson Police 12/8/18
Please join the Tucson Police Department for “A Day in the Park with TPD” this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at Santa Rita Park. They will be in the park with several different static displays from their SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Rapid Response Team, K9 and others. Tucson Fire Department will also be in attendance with one of their Engine trucks.
Food and activities will be on hand for everyone. Please come by and thank the police department for their service!
APNA’s 11/13/18 Meeting: Crime, Armory Park, Dusk Festival
Some notes from APNA President Anne Cooper about last Tuesday’s general meeting:
We had representatives from the police department and Pima County attorneys office discuss crime in the neighborhood and how we can continue our dialogue to make Armory Park a safe neighborhood. We will continue to actively partner with them to ensure the police coverage we are enjoying continues.

We had a continued discussion about Armory Park and in particular the Dusk Festival. As a followup to this and the listserv discussions, I have invited and confirmed Brent Dennis (the head of Parks and Rec), Steve Kozachik (Ward 6 councilman) and Greg Jackson (city managers office who approves special permits for Armory Park) to the next APNA meeting on December 11th. I will send out reminders in advance so that we can get as many people who want, to attend. Come with your questions and solutions – we want this to be a fruitful discussion.
