APNA Special Election 5/21/19

A message from APNA President Anne Cooper:

Dear all:

There will be a special meeting of the APNA membership on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church for the sole purpose of electing an alternate board member. Currently, there are not sufficient alternates to satisfy the requirements of APNA. 

 APNA lacks a board member willing and able to serve as Treasurer. Fortunately,  APNA member Donna Taylor is willing to serve as Treasurer for the remainder of this year.  However. APNA bylaws require that she first  be elected as a Board Alternate at a special meeting.

If elected as an alternate, she can be appointed by the Board President (or, in the President’s absence, the Board Vice President) to the Board as a member and elected by the Board to fill the Treasurer’s position.  In compliance with APNA bylaws, the APNA Board acted at the membership meeting on May 14th to to elect Donna Treasurer, contingent on her being elected by the membership at a special meeting and appointment to the Board by the President (or Vice-President).

It is necessary to have paid your membership dues PRIOR to April 21, 2019 to be eligible to vote.

 

A simple majority of eligible to vote members  present  at the special meeting will serve to elect an Alternate member. This meeting will take place before and independently of the Armory Park Historic Zoning meeting which will commence at 7:00 pm at the same location.

Because I will be away, APNA Vice President Maurice Roberts will preside at the special meeting.

Armory Park General Meeting May 14

First, as discussed before, the Dusk Festival will be taking place this November in Armory Park. Page Repp (the promoter) will be in attendance to field your questions. Second, we will be discussing a proposed streetscapes committee, headed by Ken Taylor. There has been a flurry of discussion on the listserv regarding what/when and how to address owners of run-down properties.   Lets continue that discussion and come to a neighborhood consensus on Tuesday!

Good News: a New Hotel. Not So Good: It Wants to Skimp on Parking.

Hampton Inn/Home2 Suites plans to build a hotel at 141 S Stone Ave, opposite St Augustine Cathedral and behind the Scottish Rite Cathedral. It is asking for reduced parking through the Infill Incentive District regulations. If you are able, please attend the May 6 meeting listed in the attachment. We will have representatives from the APNA and the APHZAB (historic board) in attendance.

Another Herbert in the Neighborhood?

Another Herbert apartment building coming our way planning to use Armory Park as its parking lot? Please plan to attend the Wednesday, May 1 meeting if you can.

A message from APNA President Anne Cooper: “A heads up on development that will be taking place at 127 S 5th Ave (current parking lot and structure across from the Stillwell house and behind Cartel Coffee). There is a meeting on Wednesday, May 1st at the Hexagon Building, 5th floor auditorium from 6:00-8:00 (address is 40 E Congress).

Interested in Helping the Immigrants at the Benedictine Monastery?

immigrants_moore-1250x0-c-defaultA message from Ward 6 Council Member Steve Kozachik: “The weather is heating up. Consequently, we are seeing a lot of dehydration among the Central American guests who are now arriving at the monastery. Some report having been penned in outdoor corrals in El Paso, then having been bussed here with no fluids being offered. Their condition validates those stories. If you are so inclined, we could use 6-packs of small bottles of Gatorade/Powerade, or powdered or liquid flavored Pedialyte. We now hear directly from Border Patrol that they will be dropping up to 300 guests in the next few days – bypassing ICE in the process. The problem is not decreasing in magnitude.”

APNA Board Meeting 4/9/19

The APNA Board holds its monthly meeting Tuesday, April 9, at 7 PM in the St. Andrew’s Parish Hall. Come and hear what’s going on in the neighborhood and around town! This month there will be presentations from Park Tucson’s Donovan Durband and the Library’s Brian Chenecka.

Do We Want the Dusk Music Festival in Armory Park This Year?

As many of you know we had Page Repp, promoter of the Dusk festival, come to the APNA meetings in December and last night to discuss the 3 main concerns that arose from the Dusk festival last November. To reiterate they were:
1) Noise
2) Access and
3) Start/end time of festival
